Are there Russians in your area?
Apart from the big rise in Russian tourism, they also seem to be buying up property at an increasing rate. according to this, they have already overtaken the Brits in the Valencian area in terms of money paid out.

A one-off, or a continuing trend in tourist areas?

I bumped into a German woman yesterday in the village - seemed to be on something, at 10am
so is that as good as a Russian or two ??

My guess, and it really is just a hunch, is that they will be found close to resorts and airports, but that very few will venture inland. They have their own dachas in Russia if they want rural get-aways.

Non around me that I'm aware of.
There were some Latvians and Lithuanians not so far away, probably here for the work, but they all seem to have disappeared since the crisis took a hold.

How would you tell the difference, lots of Romanians on the CB.

Their car number plates as I recall were quite prevalent a few years back, but not any more.
Also when I've enquired around the area for builders.
The Rumanians are something else, but generally those of them who were engaged in legitimate occupations are also well down in numbers

Yeah but my OH's best mate is married to a Russian, the comfortably off ones do have dachas, but they hardly ever go there as the weather is so rubbish, they love the sun. That's their motivation for buying up in Spain and Cyprus even when they have the use of a dacha.

Put the squeeze on the Russian Mafia mob and they could solve the economic crisis in one fell swoop.
Mind I wouldn't like to be in their shoes if they tried it, ....... no doubt we are much easier pickings.

The Russians have bought 4 hotels in Lloret-de-Mar.

There is a restaurant in Calella where all the writing is in Russian (no Spanish or English menus outside to see what to try) and I was in Barcelona last week and saw a lot of restaurants with menus chalked up in Russian.
If wants anymore, tell him it's Moscow Rules from now on.

In one sense they are of an entirely different culture and likely won't take to it too kindly.
On the other hand they should find themselves very much at home with the widespread bribery and corruption, so by passing around the odd sweetener or three, they could well find themselves fitting in quite nicely.

Mostly tourists, most of which I've found to be very nice people.
Russian tour agents visit Majorca
The handful of Russian residents are usually mafia or into something not-entirely-above-the-table. They're watched very carefully.
Spanish Police arrest Russian Mafia suspects
Georgian Mafia suspects arrested
Russian general under suspicion in Mallorca
