termites
I have just had termites attack my front door! I have had it treated and a specialist inspection of the beams in the house is happening v soon but I wondered if anyone had any experience of the little b*****ds and could offer any advice on how to keep them away in future, how to spot early signs etc.
thanks

Re: termites
I had a surveyor in to our house and he said that anything wooden in the house should be treated against termites, as once they get hold they can do some real damage .... check everything else wooden in the house for signs of attack ..... maybe consider a treatment

Re: termites
Termite larvae live in the ground so when they become active which is usually spring and autumn, they will look for the closest food source...often the bottoms of doorframes if there is no damp proof membrane beneath. They need moisture to survive and so to keep them away, you have to keep the susceptible areas protected, dry and well ventilated. DonĀ“t store firewood in the house either.

Re: termites
Tap the door frames at the part nearest the ground. Termites often eat door frames from the inside out so the wood will look superficially normal, but if you tap it you will hear a hollow sound. They are a big problem in older houses in Spain.
