I am considering buying a holiday home on the Oasis urbanization and have read some of the comments posted about the proposed expansion plans for the area.Most people seem depressed by the proposals and to prevent me becoming depressed about the area please tell me something good about living or having a holiday there.

It has a really lovely town/village centre, open bar/ cafe's really pleasant to sit and pass the time of day in the sun. Some very nice wine to be had from the new bodega, surrounding countryside is stunning to look at. It has a pretty church, but be warned the short climb up is a killer on the legs. It's in Spain not the UK, need I go on?


Be careful if you are considering Oasis, this is the urb that is under threat I believe, not all of it, only parts, but you need to be careful on your choice of residence.

Having recently pulled out of a purchase on an urbanisation I would NEVER advise anyone to buy on an urbanisation. Look around there are plenty of properties at good prices and better value than the new builds.

So is everyone who buys on an urbanisation stupid?? That can't be right! We've all read stories that rustic properties can still be reclaimed/bulldozed.

Wether you are talking about Hondon, Benidorm or TimBukToo, the house, people, cost-of-living, facilities and location are to be considered and what you like and want is different from others. Hondon is not for everyone neither is Villa Martin or a 10K acre Finca -- we have different needs - take advice with a pinch of salt - make a list of desireables, must-haves, etc and investigate the area, talk to as many people as possible.

To trust just one or two person's opinion would be stupid.

"Under threat" of what! Surely any expansion plans can be good/bad depending on your requirements, own situation and your stance on 'change'. As far as I understand it the Urb could be expanded but there's no plans to grab houses on the Urb because they want to build more houses. Our neighbours and friends on the Urb are generally comfortable with plans for the Urb and NO ONE KNOWS if or when any of this will take place as it COSTS MONEY - Plans are one thing doing is another. Of course I cannot speak for all 400+ house holders.

Go to the Hondon Nieves council and see Carlo or Marielana for detailed info then form an opinion on whether you see the plans as a threat. Personally I am not worried. And remember the influx of foreigners has already caused change and some may say the threat already happened !!!

I can understand you feeling agrieved grapeater, after all you live there, however this thread talks about landgrab in that area. I don't want to get into a slanging match with you but as you say, who do you believe, your own opinion or a rapidly growing number of tenants forming a group to oppose the plans?........

Instead of asking for someone to tell you something good about Hondon, why don't you just visit and form your own opinion? Personally I think the valley will benefit from expansion, considering it hasn't even got a proper bus service.

Exactly what is it under threat from? a swarm of bees? a roving bull? Everyone who lives in Hondon loves where they live and know it would take more than a few more houses to destroy it's beauty.

Have you been to Hondon by the way?

As for slanging off Urbs - you can't judge by one persons bad experience- horses for courses and all that.

Well said Gilbey. I quite agree with your comments. I was over in February and the area where houses might be built was pointed out to me, in my opinion, this will not effect the views Oasis has or spoil the area, it would be a similar urbanisation further along the road and could possibly bring more to the area (buses,employment) and still not spoil the beauty.It all depends what each individual is looking for, my comments are obviously my opinion

This thread was 'tell me something good' and not about land-grab. The negatives take hold again. Why are people obsessed with bad news. NO-ONE knows what will happen for sure not even the Mayor of Hondon. It's ALL about opinion, you are free to believe what you hear, see or take time to research yourself.

The UK is no different - my home town has been waiting nearly 30 years for a by-pass which was 'planned'.

And the consensus among my immediate friends is that there is no rapidly forming group just a small number of politically biased people spoiling the party for their own ends. If you or anyone else are worried about this find out from the Hondon Council, not ill-informed gossip and 3rd hand hear-say.

If this was for me Gilbey then yes we have been to Hondon many times for lunch in the lovely village, as I said in my first post if you actually read that one.
As for bus service, the village where we live doesn't even have a shop, not one single shop! If we need anything then its a drive of 3kms to the next village which does have ONE shop! shock horror! If we need to shop properly then it is a journey to Pinoso, Abanilla or Fortuna.


And do you know what? We wouldn't have it any other way! If you say this development will not encroach on the picturesque setting that Hondon presently is, good for you. I hope that time bears you out on that, one thting is for sure, your current infrastructure of water/electricity etc will not support it.

Hi hattiejaques!
We only visited the area once when we decided it was for us....it just felt right!
I haven't heard anyone who is living there say anything bad about it!
From my personal point of view...if you like to be out in the Country in a peaceful location with great views it's ideal. Yes you will need a car to get about, something worth taking into consideration.
As has been said before, what's for one person may not be for another..

This thread appears to have got sidetracked so I will go back to your original question and hope our bickering has not put you off!

1, It is extremely beautiful and full of trails and picnic areas for walking,cycling etc
2, Oasis has a service road that runs parallel with the main road so you can cycle to Frailes and beyond on a totally flat stretch of road.
3,There is a lovely picnic/bbq spot just behind the hill behind Oasis which, if you walk up the hillside a little, gives you a view of the reservoir and mountains beyond to rival the Lake District. It is accessible along the back road which goes from Nieves to the edge of the Urb.
4, We have tended to spend time more in Frailes than Nieves but have found the village very friendly and the bars have a mix of both Spanish and English who all socialise together.
5, The villages all had wonderful fiestas at Easter and apparently the one in August is not to be missed!
6, Oasis has a good mix of all nationalities and cultures.
7, It's like Kew Gardens as more and more people move in and get their gardening shoes on.
8, It's so easy to drive into Elche for your larger shopping requirements but both villages have some very good shops.
9, It is in a fantastic position, enabling you to visit most of the Costa Blanca
within 45 minutes. You can pick and choose which beach you prefer to visit.
10, Ikea is only 45 minutes away and involves driving through orange groves rather than traffic Jams of the M62.
11, The cafe's and bars have lovely, affordable meals, both Spanish and English.
12, The sunsets are to die for and it is hotter than the UK.

I think you will know deep down if it is the right place for you. Just ensure you investigate everything in order that you can make your own informed decision.

I am thinking about the service road...I can't remember seeing it whenever we have been there, and excuse my ignorance but what is a service road used for? We have only visited the School at Hondon De Las Nieves and although it appears to be the "catchment" School for Oasis, are considering looking into the School at Frailles. Gilbey have you cycled or walked this route to Frailles? and how long did it take you? Just curious

There are a fair amount of Lorries going to and fro on that main road, good to know there is an alternative route.

When you look at Hondon don't you wonder why the prices are so much lower than anywhere else on the Costa Blanca? Apart from having one of the worst land grab (LRAU) records in the whole community it is a barren place made up of a sprawl of enormous villas on rustic land and urbanizations in the middle of nowhere (making a car an absolute must). The town itself might have a nice church but the rest of the place in my opinion is a dump. Also because infrastructure is based on the number of residents a town has (and the town has such a high proportion of non residents and residents that never bother to inscribe themselves) the town's infrastructure (rubbish collection, postal service frequency, etc) is left to the imagination. Last but not least the town is extremely poorly communicated. The is no fast road in or out in any direction so going to a decent supermarket, shopping mall, the airport, the beach or anywhere of interest is a major excursion.
