Default Teenager moving to Spain (Worried)

Hi all, dose any one have any teenage children that can get in touch with my daughter she is 13, and is very reluctant to move to Spain, we are moving to the Costa Blanca region in October, me my husband and son and daughter, son is only 18 months so wont know any difference, we have sold the house the dogs are half was through the pet passport scheme, all the furniture is gone and there is not much left for us to do, so the reality of us moving there is hitting her badly, and dosen't want to come, I just wondered if there is any one that had the same problem when you came to Spain?

Any more help and advice you have would be much appreciated

My husband is also looking for work in IT (Computer Maintenance & Networking) after looking at the differnce in salaries it is a bit worrying that you get a bit drop in pay in Spain. Anyone know how to obtain IT work?

There are several employment agencies advertising IT work here but, unless your Spanish is good, any specialised job is hard to find so may be worth considering a career change. I was a very senior Nurse in the UK with reasonable Spanish and the only work I could get was in a shop. Wages here much lower than in UK - when I had to finish last year on medical advice I was earning €6 (prrox 4 Pounds UK) per hour and that was considered good money locally! Please don´t think I´m trying to put you off - we thoroughly enjoy our life here and wouldn´t think about going back to UK - just thought you may appreciate an honest opinion. Good luck.

Hello Ruth & Gino,

I have lived here in Spain for nearly three years now, and moved here with two daughters aged 13 and 14 it was difficult at first for them to settle as they went to an all Spanish school and did not speak a word of Spanish, so for the first six months they did not enjoy it, we spent a lot of money on extra Spanish lessions for them, and in time they got used to the language and can not hold their own.

We live inland a town called Sax in Alicante province which is now becoming popular with the English so there are more English children here in the school now and the school is recognising this influx of English and are putting on more Spanish lessions for those who dont speak Spanish.

If you would like your daughter to contact mine then PM me and I will get in touch.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi guys,

Having been thrown in the deep end into the Spanish school system some years ago I can tell you it can be difficult, it does take time to adjust but it will happen.

It would help if you could give us an idea of where you are moving so that people who live in the area you are moving to could get in touch.

If you are moving to an area we cover, then I'd be happy to introduce you to some British people with children of a similar age.

Good luck with the move!
