TDT Channels closing

Switched on TDT box for the first time in a while and saw a message on a few of channels stating the government is forcing them to close on the 6th of May ???

Re: TDT Channels closing

A total of nine Terrestrial Digital Television channels are set to close down by May 6th 2014.

Something to do with how the frequencies were "mis sold" to existing broadcasters and not made to new broacasters.

Channels closing down include:
â—¾La Sexta 3.
â—¾Xplora.
â—¾Nitro.
â—¾La Siete.
â—¾Net TV.
â—¾Veo TV.

The news is there could be more shutting.
It is also said the bandwidth is needed for 4G signals. But the government being the government denies this.:frown:
Still less crap to watch:)

Re: TDT Channels closing

It's to do with licenses being sold unfairly, ie. licenses that should never have been handed out, nothing to do with 4g bandwidth. Shame to see Explora going as I enjoyed some of the programs on their and some of the films on La Sexta3 however I wont miss all the repeated crap they kept showing on some of the Mediaset channels.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Does this mean those same channels when received by TDT satellite will be disappearing? If so will there be anything to replace them?

Probably - no point in keeping them on TDT Satellite where a only fraction of the population can seen them and their ad revenue drops dramatically.

Depends what the gvmt want to do with the TV spectrum - which will probably sell it off to mobile phones / 3g and 4g operators for a quick profit....like in most other countries

I was once told that you can tell somebody's education by their use of commas.

Not that, I agree! :)

That´s just what I did; shared my opinion.
No offence meant; good communication means ensuring there is no ambiguity, surely.
