Fred - like you I was under the impression that it took 3 years to qualify for the benefits - in a column in today's RTN paper - Aboco (local company) are stating 5 yrs for the Andalusia and Valencia regions.

A change or maybe an error? Any thoughts?
It's quite correct but it only applies to Inheritance Tax and you must have been "habitually" resident in that region for the 5 years to get the special regional benefits which can be very considerable.

The OP was asking about the tax resident benefits of selling a house which would be Capital Gains Tax.

In that case it is 3 years to get the "rollover" relief and over 65 exemption and this is a national rather than regional benefit.
