Re: Tap water debate
In Jimena, the water is continually being cut for maintenance without any warning - something that certainly should not happen. You wouldn't want to drink the water that comes out for the next half day once the supply has been restored.
Info on trihalomethanes; they are the residues left when organic compounds have been treated with disinfectants such as chlorine. Bodies such as the WHO and the EU specify safe levels. Where the safe levels are exceeded it is because the water hasn't been filtered sufficiently prior to chlorination rather than over-chlorination. |
Re: Tap water debate
More organic compounds require more chlorine = more trihalomethanes.

Re: Tap water debate
Our village lies between Oliva and Gandia and our water is fine to drink. Have never noticed any perceptible taste. But it is incredibly hard and we continually battle lime deposits in the kettle and the tap filters. Have learned to use vinegar-soaked cotton balls to de-scale the tap filters and we give the kettle a vinegar treatment every couple of months. We use anti-cal cleaners in the kitchen and bathroom.

Re: Tap water debate
If you have really hard water, the only sensible solution is a proper ion exchange water softener.

Re: Tap water debate
Thanks for all the suggestions on this subject. I tried to contact Hidraqua through their contact page to try and get info on chlorination etc etc, but as it's all in Spanish, with no translate option I gave up on that one.
I've filled a clear bottle from the tap water and it looks clear so I'll cool it in the fridge for an hour or two and give it a try for a few days. Regards Steve |
Re: Tap water debate
The point is that the Spanish water companies have fallen short over the years. If you want to take a chance without checking with your supplier, then it's up to you, but trihalomethanes cause cancer!

If in doubt, leave it out.

Re: Tap water debate
Better not buy your water in plastic bottles then.

If people stopped having sex they would eliminate cancer completely in about 100 years. |
