is it possible to have myself, some cd's, books, and my small dog delivered to Spain?

Yes there are couriers or local white van men that will do the transport for you. It depends on where in Spain, the Costa Blanca region and particularly around Torrievieja have must be a dozen that advertise it.

Costa del Sol. What's the cost? My dog is old and would like to get him over with as little stress as possible. Can you fly with your dog on some flights as I've seen dogs in Malaga Airport.

Are you planning to put yourself in a box and travel freight? Otherwise what you are describing is a taxi - as it's illegal to transport people for reward without the appropriate taxi licence and insurance in most countries. That would cost a lot.

Although there is a web site that enables people who are planning to travel to offer a lift to others - this should only for the cost of fuel. Someone posted the address on here recently but I can't find it. If you google "share my ride" or similar, a number of options come up. can't recommend any 'cos I don't know them.

You can fly with your pet. Check Monarch airlines website. However it is not cheap! Your pet may actually cost more than your own flight. The pet goes into the aircraft luggage hold in special crates, the crates/cages are kept in subdued/or no lighting to keep your pet calm. The pet is placed on the aircraft not by Monarch but by a cargo handling subsidiary- you take your pet to the cargo terminal before booking yourself into the passenger terminal.

Of course Spain is more civilised than that, they have pet drop off points in the main terminal. That is why you see people walking around the passenger terminal with their pets.

The great thing about flying is that the total journey time for your pet to be distressed is about 5 hours or so, by road it takes forever! We came back last week from Yorkshire, its 5 hours to the ferry at Portsmouth, 24 hours on the ferry and then a 9 hour drive down to Murcia. For you the travel time would be even greater, many of the courier services use the tunnel and drive through France. But ferry or France the travel times are roughly the same.

I witness the views of some when comparing air freight to courier pet wise.

Here can only say have used Pet Couriers three times and indeed Spain and France. Our experience has been first class. We chatted to our vet and he argued for couriers and said that stress air freight wise was not to be encouraged.

Yesterday attended a meeting of the Pedanco club in Javea and who rescue these delightful dogs. They re-homed sixty dogs last year and all travelled courier throughout Europe.

I would love to get my hands on the individuals who cause this lovely breed so much distress.
