Taking a car off the road for a couple of months
Is it possible to do this? If the car is not going to be used for 5/6 months- is it possible to register it as such and, if so, how?

I do not think there is a Spanish 'SORN' equivalent - but check DGT site.

You can do a "baja temporal" at trafico.
If the iv runs out during the baja period you'll have to get a new itv before you can cancel the baja. You can't drive it on the road so would have to get it towed to the itv station.

So a baja temporal is a sort of SORN - would you get a discount on road tax? And I assume the vehicle has to be off the public road.

I don't know if you get a discount.
It has to be off the road, it's not allowed anywhere cars in general can circulate even if private, eg carparks etc as it doesn't have to be insured.
I don't think there's a set time. I just know you can do a baja temporal.
