Sympathy anyone?

Understandably, they're not keen on free speech, but I think the comments say it all.
Ever increasing numbers of Spanish are against and ashamed of "bull fighting".

Good to see looking at recent posts from, guess who ladies , that the usual standard of debate is being maintained.
The suggestion that Bull fighting is Spain is an EU sponsored or supported activity is just plain nonsense .
Apart from one poster ( not Stevie ) no one else who has contributed to this thread has posted anything but condemnation of bullfighting and similar activites.

Noe of us would disagree that the EU funds some very strange things, but bullighting ??
Mybe Andy can provide evidence that it does.

A quick google reveals that EU money through the CAP goes to fighting bull breeders and other ancillary activities - but I can't find any evidence of direct funding.

"Bullfighting has been on the decline for years in Spain, with a 2010 survey in El Pais showing 60 percent of respondents opposed the practice."
how is it allowed to continue? If Spain is a democracy, surely a 60% vote against the so called "practice" should have it banned?

Am I being a bit dim? If the article is true in it´s statement;

While it's popularity continues to decline especially among the younger generations there still remain a few hotbeds, especially in the S.W. around the Seville area which are mostly supported by the well heeled upper class,(the place to be seen you know, just like Ascot), and I don't see the tradition/culture/cruelty ending in such places any time soon.

Truly amazing just how many disused bullrings there are throughout the country. When I say disused I mean as far as bullfighting is concerned, as many of them have been put to other uses such as markets or playgrounds and the basic structures have been left untouched in most cases.

Direct comparison: Badger baiting outlawed without the blink of an eye! Those horsey tossers that enjoy a gallop in the country before tea on the terrace, still getting away with it.

Before someone jumps in with both feet, as far as I'm concerned, it's not the act, it's the method!

To me bullfighting sits right up there with badger baiting and fox hunting. I think a lot can be said about a man by the way he treats animals.
For this reason I have zero sympathy with these guys...

Interesting you should mention the well heeled!

Apparently, the TB to cattle caused by badgers is a far cry from the fact that the super intelligent can't protect their chickens from a fox!

I recall a few years back when the organisers of the hunt that Charlie boy used to "hunt" with were caught red handed feeding and breeding foxes.

I used to chase the clowns of my patch with a shotgun in my hand at one time.
Probably lock me up and throw away the key if I tried it now.
Very rare they ever caught a fox but the damage they did to walls, fences and land had to be seen to be believed.
They even panicked a flock of heavily in-lamb sheep into piling up into a heap in the corner of a field one day.
Pompous, toffee nosed eejits !
I hate their hypocritical guts, with a vengeance.

You would have to rename the forum
There was a news item here about kids being trained to do bullfighting - now I'm wondering where it was actually taking place, do they have bullfighting in Mexico?

I saw a ring once in all the time I spent there, in a little country town. That was it. It was hardly ever used and was the no-kill type of bull fighting - not that I'm saying that that makes it ok, cos I'm not.
