Summer temps in the CB (inland) HELP!!

I have been talking to a couple of people who have lived on the Cotsa Blanca, inland in the mountains. I was telling them that we are hoping to move there as soon as we can sell our property. They have advised me against going inland, as they tell me that in the summer the temperatures are unbearably hot! So hot in fact that they had to go off to the coastal areas every day because it was just like being in an oven!

That has really surprised me, as I assumed that being in a mountainous area the temperatures would be a little cooler, with the possibility of some cooling breezes/winds!

To all of you that are in northern Costa Blanca (inland), can you give me an idea of what you experience? It has given me the wobbles! Heat I don't mind, but if it is as these people describe, how on earth do you cope with it??
Thanks
Sally

Hi Sally, we have been here 6 weeks now and it is hot, in the 30's but there is usually a cooling breeze. All the shops have air conditioning, not like in the UK, and in the evenings we sit outside until quite late and it's still lovely and warm. We are in Castalla.

Well I always thought it was hotter inland. Here on the coast its showing 36 degrees at the moment on our patio. We do have slight breeze though that is cooling. What are the temps inland at the moment?

We live in Hondon de las Nieves, 20 minutes inland from Alicante. The averige temperature here is lower, because we are on 450 mtr. . In winter we sometimes have frost during the night, but in summer we have a slight breeze during the day. We have a trout lake, Hondon trucha, and when in winter anglers from the costa, f.i. Torrevieja or Denia, are coming over to fish they often are very surprised that we had frost. During the summer, even in the very hot summer of last year, it was very pleasant sitting outside in the shade with some wind. Here is space, where the wind can come. That is why a lot of spanish people leave the cities during summer and go to their country houses. The cities and villages on the coast have a lot of buildings who absorbe the heat, which makes it extra hot in summer

Thanks to all who replied. I certainly feel better after reading your posts :D
The areas we are interested in are around Alcoy/Cocentaina and Ayora. They are preety high up, so judging by Trucha's post we should be able to enjoy some breezes:thumbup:

Re: Summer temps in the CB (inland) HELP!!

I think it's hotter the Inland, the sea breeze move the temperatures a few degrees down. It's a little hotter in the summer and cooler in winter. But, in a day really hot in summer you may feel much more in the coast because of the humidity. The peak temperatures are lower in the coast but sometimes you may feel less comfort because of the higher humidity. By night, the sea work as a heat accumulator causing the night temperatures not to fall too much so sleeping is sometimes so uncomfortable...
