Suma IBI

Hi Everyone,

Just returned from a very wet UK and very glad to be back.

Had a leaflet through the door that says about paying Suma: Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles IBI before 5 October

I assume it is council tax equivalent.

Question is that I haven't received a bill so I don't know how much it is? Do they usually come by post? Or can I go to the local Suma office and find out from them and pay it there?

Thanks

Hi Sarah,

Definition of Suma IBI here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suma_Ge...B3n_Tributaria

Go to the Suma office with your passport (if property is in your name) otherwise with the escritura (deeds) and they will print out a bill for you, which you will have to pay at the bank, or if you have an account with CAM bank, you can use your dd card and pay it there and then.

Martha

P.S. If you are the owner or co-owner ask them for the CD to allow you to be able to connect online and deal with all your SUMA related issues through the internet.

Thank you Martha.

So I don't get a nasty surprise. Approx how much is it? I live in a two bed apartment.

No problem Sarah.

It depends on how old the apartment is, how many m2, where it's located etc.

We have a friend who has a great big villa 300m2 with 29,000 m2 of land, but because the villa is so out of the way (ontop of a mountain), he pays under €200 a year.

Then there is someone else with a much smaller villa, but on a busy road, with garbage collection, etc. (build 150m2, land 800 m2) and he gets a bill for about €550 a year, so it all depends.

You do have up until the 5th of October to pay ;)

Best of luck,
Martha

Here is an example of a calculation from the Suma website for non-resident homeowners:
