1. read proper newspapers, avoid cheap tabloids
2. no point discussing what/if/maybes, only worth talk when something is implemented
3. using gossip to spread information = ?

And for those that prefer the Guardian

Would it not be too late if we only talked about when things get implemented?

I'm not sure why the Graun insists on continuing to refer to what's being tentatively floated as "free movement". It isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, so it's most unhelpful.

Obviously you can't expect any better from the Express :p

As others have said, unfortunately it's not full scale freedom of movement, it's a youth mobility scheme. I hope it happens because it's particularly useful for Spanish language students on sandwich courses and it will mean they can work while studying. I have met so many Spanish people over the years who have benefited from freedom of movement and I worked with a lot of young Spanish and Portuguese lawyers when I worked at an international city law firm in London.

Doesn't take much to get the (now very much in the minority) Brexiteers fired up :typing:

In any case the UK needs to put it's own shameful house in order before negotiating deals.

Youth mobility schemes already exist in the UK and and Spain, I guess this would be the UK and Spain bilaterally adding the other country to their list of accepted countries.

Of course this is being reported as FoM because the British press is what it is.

Hopefully now the winter fuel allowance will be totally stopped... Come on - a waste of tax payers money...

Yes, it was ridiculous to give it to all pensioners. Effectively they have not scrapped it, just means tested it which is what they should have done in the first place

Minority (?) personal opinion no doubt.
The Shameful EU house will be happy in that case to deal with the UK under Sir Shyster & Co

Plenty of poor pensioners, including over 800,000 estimated to have incomes below the pension credit threshold but who don't claim, and many more on incomes above the threshold but still struggling. Add in the high cost of energy (expected to increase in October), and many pensioners will struggle to stay warm this winter. There are also many financially secure pensioners. Means testing would weed out the latter, but would probably cost more than it saved. Another option is to make it taxable, therefore (as happens with the state pension) better off pensioners will return 20%, 40% or 45% of the allowance in income tax payments.

That's the way they deal with such things in Spain. For several years I claimed a discount of 40% on my IBI bill from my Ayuntamiento. The amount of the discount appeared automatically on my Spanish income tax return - so with some joined up thinking it can be done.
