According to this Trafico run site, the 7% rule only applies up to 100kph. Above that it is higher, 131 on a 120 motorway.

It is also worth noting that all car speedometer are set to over read for legal reasons. Typically this is about 5% but often higher. Worth checking this on your GPS.

Fred yes what I always thought but look at the maths - 30 kph at 7% would be 32.5 kph , 40 kph would be 42.8 kph so the 7 kph is a more accurate guide up to 100 kph and above 7% as your example 120kph would be 129 kph

Yes, your maths is right, but the figures I gave are from Trafico on the N332.es site and I guess they are right. I would rather believe them than a press article and I have also seen them on the main DGT site in the past.

Even with the figures you posted, allowing for speedo error you are looking at around 135kph as the trigger point on motorways. Anyway, there are virtually no radar traps on 120kph sections of the motorways, they are on the 80kph sections. Mobile radars are rarely used on the motorways as the killer roads are the non dual carriageway A roads. Incidentally these figures do not apply to the Pegasus helicopters as their measuring systems are very accurate. However only a few of the helicopters are equipped with Pegasus.

There are more and more mobile radars around as now they are so small that every motorcycle has one in his kit. The also now have tiny ones that clip onto the Armco and are almost invisible. However, they are obliged to publicise which stretches of road they may be used on, and they have to erect warning signs before they use them. The signs are very small so you are unlikely to notice them. The fixed radars are all detailed on the DGT website so there is really no excuse for being caught by one of those.
The other thing to be aware of is that the tolerance do not affect the fines which are based on the speed limit you exceed, not the trigger speed.

Yes unfortuantely gone are the days when you simply kept your eyes open for a black Citroen Xantia with DGG plates parked by the side of the road and slowed down accordingly.
