speeding fine - cannot pay?

Got a speeding fine, just received in the UK post dated 14 January!I log onto the DGT site and enter all the details and it says:This sanction cannot be paid. Please, call 060 for consultation or go to any Provincial Traffic Headquarters.
Any ideas how to pay it?

Not a good idea. Next time they are driving in Spain they may find their car is confiscated.

If you cannot pay remotely, then as soon as you drive to Spain again, go straight to the nearest DGT office and pay the fine.

The interchange of information between the various EU countries is improving and it will become impossible to avoid fines from countries you visit.

The French are planning to introduce a "virtual" licence on which they can accumulate penalty points and eventually make your UK licence invalid in France. It will also happen in Spain.

Is there any chance that the fine might have "timed out" like they do after 6 months in Scotland or just some random system issue?Their website is pretty bad in terms of IT usability so as for linking EU systems it might be a few Spanish years :) :)

No, it won't time out. It will stay until it gets paid.

They can take a surprisingly long time to show up on the system so keep checking daily for a while.

Or could it be that you can´t log on from the UK but it would work from a Spain based computer?

I don't think so because I paid a fine in the past using that system from the UK just fine.Kind of random.

It will also 'time out' at traffico. If you can't pay there you will have to go to your local tax office and they will issue the speeding fine again and tag on a late payment fine (mine was 20 Euros) and then off you go to the bank that day to pay. Keep copies of everything including the payment receipt as about 4 weeks later I had a letter from the tax office asking why I hadn't paid and to present myself at their office on x day at y time to explain myself. I wrote back enclosing all the documents and cased closed, or rather I never heard from them again.
