Spanish TV

I am wondering what you guys think of Spanish TV and how you think it compares to British television. Are you getting into the more popular sports in Spain like motor racing, cycling, tennis? Do you watch any of the hundreds of gossip programs that invade the TV? Do you miss your favourite soap operas or do you get satellite and therefore have a chance to watch them all?

What is your favourite Spanish program?

And those of you that love football.. do you have a Spanish favourite team or do you follow your team back in the UK?

Maybe I'm asking too many questions.. you know it's a Spanish thing :o..

I watch some of the game shows on Spanish TV as they at least help with learning the spanish language, Mira quien bailar on Monday nights can be quite hilarious at times 'Strictly come dancing it is not', and of couse the news again is helpful, you can usually just about get the idea of whats happening, I just wish there was a program where they spoke a bit slower.

Re: Spanish TV

We only have spanish TV
I love alatu (deal or no deal) he is better than Noel Edmonds
We get the sports even Uk football good coverage Monty the commentator is great, love his energy. My other half like his commentary better than the UK people, less critical more fun.
Films well i can watch them but the adverts go on for ever and sometimes the translation misses the mark some what.
We are going to have Uk TV when we have finished up stairs, but we still want to keep our spanish channels as it has really helped in my understanding of the language.

We just loved to watch Allah tu (think thats how it is spelt). It the Spanish version of deal or no deal. We were glued to the tv every night at 8pm and if we were out always made sure we came home for it.

Also used to watch cookery programmes, we found those a good way of learning Spanish.

Then we got Sky tv so they all went by the wayside. Not through choice, the people who did our sky cut off the Spanish aerial!!!!!

We use Digital Plus - only.

In some ways I feel Spanish TV has improved over the years in that there are more series now than before and the 'lazy', cheap format of a live 4 hour gala marathon in prime time is getting fewer are far between but like TV the world over, in other areas it has dropped enormously in quality. I'm sorry but the boxes programme is just mind-numbing. Endemol has a lot to answer for with all the reality style shows and their deriviatives.

My favourite show was Cronicas Marcianas back in the pre-Gran Hermano days when it was actually worth watching. Good to see Sarda has a new show coming up

We use Canal Plus, Fox, AXN and Calle 13 principally for the series' (Lost, West Wing, Studio 60, Prison Break, House, 24, Spooks, Boston Legal, The Office etc plus the movies) Occasionally watch the reruns of Cuentame Como Pasó. Used to like the magazine show they did every day on Canal Plus at 15.30 but that's long gone now unfortunately. :(

I can get most sport I want to watch on Digital Plus but I prefer watching it in the bar anyway.

As for sport, I keep an eye on Recre and any team that is playing against Real Madrid :sneaky: but rugby is more my thing. I try to get up to Madrid to watch the selection a few times a season. Moto-GP doesn't really interest me and cycling just bores me - why any grown man would choose to dress up in Lycra and subject themselves to hours of solidity in their rear end is beyond me!!!

we love 'alla tu!' - have never seen the english version, but Jesus:wub: has to be better than Noel!

actually we watch a lot of game shows.....I am so chuffed if I get a question right on 'millionario'

I still find it hard to watch a dubbed film..I never realised how much I watched peoples mouths until now!

the kids watch the cartoons...& I have been known to watch 'a tu lado' & 'aqui no hay tomate'

I especially like the lie detector bit in 'a tu lado'

we do now have a small dish that picks up a couple of english channels (it came with the house) - but mostly we use it to tape things like CSI.....way too technical ifor my spanish!

We used to get TVE on Direct TV, but now can't get it on our cable...but I guess one of our favorites was 'Cuentame'...probably because the characters portrayed during the time period (circa 1974-75) are the same age as my wife and I. She lived those times...the political turmoil at the the last of the Franco regime- and beginning of the new Democracy.

Curiously, the show was partly devised and written by an Englishman, Patrick Buckley.
