Re: Spanish property

Would you recommended Javeà for a young family, I visited once but didn't stay long enough, work is not required in Spain for me or my wife, I work away so hopefully there is a good community for my wife to mingle in with other mums.
Our 8 year old daughter, we are going to hopefully get in international school if the have spaces available, our 2 & 3 year old we are going to put in state school.

Re: Spanish property

Yes I would. Javea is the sort of place where it is very easy to mix with those around you to the extent that you want to.

The only thing I would say is that unless your 8 year old has some special learning needs or is at the lower end of the achievement scale, I would think seriously about a state school for her. At 8 she should be able to pick up the languages quite quickly and that will certainly be a huge advantage for her if she decides to make her life in Spain when older.

We was a little worried that she wouldn't pick up the language, but it's is definitely a option,
Would you recommend any other areas to look at around Javea. We want to keep a few options open just in case we cannot find the right property.

Near to Javea on the same side of Montgo are Moraira, Benitachell and Teulada. Moraira is on the coast and is very pretty but for many it is too quiet out of season. The others are a little inland but if you include them in your search you should be able to find something within your budget. I don't know what your budget is, obviously, but across the 4 there is something for all budgets.

On the other side of Montgo is Denia and again, has something for all budgets. A smaller expat community though.

Re your daughter. If she is an average 8 year old she should be able to acquire the languages pretty quickly. I've seen a lot of advice about schooling offered here and most tends to agree that 9 and below makes state school an option, but once 10 and over international is usually best.

Thanks for the information, we would prefare somewhere that's not so quiet in the off season, with me been away for 4-6 weeks at a time.
I believe there are a lot of people in same situation as us, where husbands work away. Our budget is around 300,000 euros, I know a lot of people rent first, but I would rather buy, then if things where to change we would have a investment at least.,

Re: Spanish property

Well, having an investment is OK so long as it's a good one.

There's a lot of sense in renting because you discover if you like the area.

For example, I know people who moved to places like Balcon del Mar because that's (one place) where the villas with the private pools are. They now rent out the villas they own and have moved into rent townhouses in complexes with shared pools because they felt isolated living between other peoples' holiday homes on Balcon.

That said, I bought here as soon as I got here without renting first.

And yes, there are lots of families with work-away parent.

Thanks for the advice, I would probably feel a lot safer if my wife was in a communal area. Especially for the 1st year or so.

Just 1 more thing would you happen to know any good 2nd hand car sites, I think I'm going to sell my car before I come to Spain, it would cost me to much to transfer over to Spanish plates.

Thanks

Note that you have to pay 10% tax when you buy a property in Spain so it must be a long term investment otherwise you will lost EUR30k just like that if you don´t like the area you have bought in

Another reason why renting first is a good idea

This is the nearest 2nd hand car dealer. Cars & vehicles for sale, car rental, Javea, Costa Blanca, Spain

But, when I saw how much they wanted for what I was looking for, I went and bought a new one instead.

I hear 2nd hand cars are very expensive, I will do the full research on how much it will be to change my car over, I currently have a Audi Q7, and I believe you have to pay 12% tax in what the vehicle is worth at the time you bring it over.
Thanks again for the help.

2nd hand cars have the bonus of being pre-scratched and dented. So, you need not feel the disappointment when you return to the supermarket parking lot to find a huge scratch or dent in your brand new car.

Remember, it is not what you think it is worth, it is what Spain thinks.
