Re: Spanish local election results
Here it's largely PNV and EH Bildu, Basque parties of the centre and left respectively.
There are going to be some interesting deals and pacts in the next few days or weeks.

Re: Spanish local election results
Here in one of the poorest districts in Spain the PP increased council tax 4 fold in 2012. The locals that actually pay it were up in arms. You are talking about a village where the tax was averaging 75€ a year and in one move it rose to average 400€.
It is the same for the whole area, I know a lot of the spanish were looking for payback as some of the things PP have done or allowed border on scandalous and fraudulent. A huge rubbish tip appeared outside the local town with all sorts of toxic stuff being dumped, trucks coming from 100's of kilometres away to tip their loads. The pp even refused to look at it, the rumour being the local mayor was taking bribes not to have it stopped.
All I can say is he and his deputy manage to get a top of the range Mercedes saloon car every year! He and his councillors never pay for lunch, they do a round of the area each weekday, and expect the local bar to foot their entire food and drink bill. Its our local bars turn every 2nd wednesday of the month. They turn up in the village 7 very expensive cars, they all go into the back room of the bar then eat and drink for 3 hours under the pretext of a 'working lunch' go to the town hall and they are never there!
This on top of the fact the council is in debt to the tune of 6million euro!

Some things in Spain never change, though maybe now there is a little hope.
Let's hope the new boys give the big two corruption specialists a damned good kicking come the general election.

Here, in Almunecar, the PP increased their share of the vote by 24% and gained 2 seats and remain in power. Almost all the other PP councils lost seats and their majority.

Re: Spanish local election results
Yes our area (Abanilla) has returned a full PSOE council without having to resort to a coalition. Maybe 28 years of having the same pp mayor in charge of corruption and scandal has finally got through to the electorate?
Mind you the PSOE have played the tory card here. They put up an english ex-pat as a councillor who actively pursued expats of all nationalities to go out and vote for them. It seems to have worked, just like the torys have pursued ethnic votes in the UK election.

I've always suspected that corruption is in the DNA of the Mediterranean Spanish mentality. I never trust politicians with greasy hair combed back and/or moustaches!!
Not that we're immune from it in the north, but perhaps it's less than down your way.

Spain's ruling PP gets worst local election result in 20 years | Reuters
"Spain has virtually no tradition of compromise politics and the fragmented vote is likely to result in weeks of pact-building in the regions which hold substantial devolved power and determine spending in key areas like education and health."
"Market sentiment towards Spain may be favourable but the political scene is becoming a lot more fragmented, boding ill for the formation of a stable and strong government after the parliamentary vote later this year," said Nicholas Spiro, analyst at Spiro Sovereign Strategy."

Re: Spanish local election results
PSOE took 7 seats, PP 5 and an independent 1
As to the statement from EMR about moving to the left and comparing it to Greece.
All I can say is that in our region the capitalist PP has ruled for 28 years, leaving office with 6 million € of debt. Are you saying they should have been left in power?
Only time will tell if the socialists are better. With 28 years and 6 million of debt left by the PP, they are going to be hard pushed to be worse!

Not really a sign of confidence in the future.
