We were due to sail back to UK next week and our ferry has been cancelled and we are now booked on a service for April 9th. As an alternative I was thinking of leaving immediately and driving north through Spain to head for the channel ports.

Does anyone know if I would be in contravention of the new lockdown procedures and liable to be stopped by the authorities or is travelling to return home a legitimate journey?

A good question. We are currently separated by 1700 miles. We debated likely outcomes and gave up on being reunited for months. My view is one of the safest places you can be is in your car. The problem might be if you have to overnight anywhere. if you are organised and have two drivers it is doable in 24 hours-of driving. Food, cash for tolls. Take documentation with you e.g. ferry bookings, cancelled ferry bookings. Might help if you are stopped.

The roads are likely to be relatively free of cars but hopefully normal amount of lorries doing re supply. Borders could be a problem eg if you made it to Spanish France border. France currently doesn't seem to have any travel bans. If you made it to Northern France I cant see you not being allowed on Eurotunnel. The French would be glad to be rid of you.

I would leave setting off for a couple of days as over zealous GC might be looking for miscreants . Don’t leave it too long as things are changing by the day. Witness the stupidity of plane loads of people turning around mid air as bars come down . The UK health secretary has just said that in the coming days or weeks the over 70s will be asked to self isolate for a long period of up to four months.

Just my thoughts and depends how important it is to get to the UK. Maybe have a phone conversation about it with the British Consul office in Spain? The easiest thing to do is stay where you are.

Which ferry has been cancelled? As far as I can see most ferries are still running regular services. For example, ferry from Calais to Dover is running as normal and I have just received an e mail offering 30% discount.

As usual break the law in Spain and you will be fined. In this case fines up to 30,000 euros........
https://www.lavozdegalicia.es/notici...4414227746.htm
There are other fines associated with the Alarm status.
If refuse to identify yourself to any police force then 601 to 30,000 euros. Carry around your ID.
Remove any seals or fencing erected by a police force fines start at start from 100 euros.
Disobey any orders will be met with fines and imprisonment.
The list goes on and on.
Good luck if you feel you are not included by the measures the Spanish government has deemed to issue.

Yes ,we have also had our ferry booking canx(Britt ferries). Now rebooked 1 April. We are travelling up from Portugal. taking docs and ferry booking conf.
Just now hoping Spain doesn't close its borders.Would like to stay here, but feel the need to get home as feeling isolated here. The resources here are scarce enough without us needing to use them. The problem is there seems nowhere to stay overnight,or to eat.Looks like we will be living in the car for 24 hours. I'm sure we will be stopped along the way(hopefully not on he border).Really not looking forward to the journey. We were also looking at travelling through France, but the length of that journey living in the car is just a bit too daunting. France has just upped their containment measures too.
