Default Spanish exports

Interesting site.

http://atlas.media.mit.edu/country/esp/

What's the biggest export market? Citrus fruits, perhaps? No, that's just 1.36%. Wine then? No - only 1.02% of the total.
Cars are the biggest export element with 10.8% of the exporting total. Followed by packaged medicaments with 4.26%. (funnily enough they are also big import items).

Fascinating site. And I suspect pretty accurate because there are very few small scale internet sales from Spain which are obviously unregistered.

The balance of payments with Gibraltar look good from Spain's point of view

Exports to Gib $1,586,806,871

Imports from Gib $49,811,498

I wonder where the will to cause chaos at the frontier comes from?

yes, fascinating to see these figures - good spot Stevie

pity they are including photovoltaic cells with transistors etc - in the early days perhaps, but with the large sites Spain has invested in surely a major anomaly now.

anything to do with not knowing which side your bread is buttered on ? ?

although it does prove that Gib would be stuffed if there was a total blockade of land sea and air.

Probably the millions of high tariff exports that leave every day in people's petrol tanks as well as the tobacco and alcohol that works it's way back over the frontier in unofficial exports which will not appear in these figures....says the man who is about to head to Gib to fill up the car, buy some tobacco to take back to my mate in London at the end of the week and stock up on another hidden export of Gib...sherbet filled flying saucers

I think the $50 million is mainly tobacco related products.

However I also presume that these figures do not include money / wages taken into Spain from Gib which must be a sizeable figure.

With reference to your flying saucers please note Aircraft and Spacecraft etc. are Zero rated from the import tax in Gib.

They should have looked earlier into improving the sherbet in their own version of the flying saucers it just isn't tangy enough and would definitely have had a marked effect on sales in 2010/11

I seem to remember that Spain tried that from 1969 until 1985
Gibraltar survived and would do so again.

The way Spain (and Greece) have fiddled their official figures for years, I'm not really surprised. Neither do I believe the current economic data or the supposed health of the Spanish banking system or the state of the regions. They're all in a mess and doing what they can to hide it.

I can report an extra £180 of unreported exports from Gibraltar to Spain today which mainly consisted of petrol, tobacco, t-bone steaks and of course..flying saucers

I can't believe Spain exports $1.5 billion worth of goods into Gibraltar. Surely they must be counting everything that crosses the border, whether it originated in Spain or not.
