Default Spanish driving licence renewal

Spanish driving licence renewal - do I need a recent padron to complete a DL renewal?

If you go to one of the renewal clinics you only need your old licence and money.

Thanks, Rosemary - good old money that usually comes into it! Maybe a reduction as I am now OAP

Thanks for the laugh.

I did mine last week at one of the clinics, Costs less than 30 euro so not too painful and of course all done in one place which is a huge advantage.

Fantastic! Yes, I want the centre to do the whole process I have no intention of entering 'the black hole of Alicante' aka DGT.

In all fairness now there is more cita previa it is not quite the manic place it used to be but avoidance is still preferable.

If you are 70+, you are waived DGT fee of 24.30 euros, but if you use a medical centre, you still have to pay their fee, which varies.

My understanding is over 70 licence fee is waived but you have to pay for medical? I think reason for no licence fee is because renewal is every two years now for over 70s

Also the person would have to provide an up to date photo. I believe that the clinics save me a lot of hassle so well worth the fee.

Thanks for the info on frequency of exchange, I forgot to ask when I was there.

True, but if your licence was issued before turning 70, it's still valid for 5 years. At its next renewal, validity drops to two years.

I renewed my last licence a week before my 70th (I think) and wondered why I was given 5 years, now I know, thanks.

Whether it is different in different areas (unlikly), but here you get 5 years even if over 80.

Now that would be great if it is the same in my area. I absolutely hate the whole thing but especially the silly driving skills thing. I did not ask how many years would be covered so will check when the new licence arrives and let you know.
