Yes, that's to do it through the lawyer though. To do it myself like I am going to do will cost me around 20 something euros. I think it is 28 euros. Mind you I keep hearing different amounts flying about so when I do it I will be sure to tell. Sometimes I find things easier to do through the lawyers as it just gets done and I don't have to keep going back to places because they want another photocopy of something. It costs but can be worth it. On the other hand, if you can do it yourself and get something over here done, it does make you feel like you've achieved something and seems to make the next thing easier.

Then he rang his friend at trafico in Malaga, explained which license I had. (English photo license). Trafico man said, "Tell him not to bother changing it, that the driving license is legal and to save myself 80 euros" (as he had quoted me a little too cheaply).
I now still want to change my license but will go to trafico myself and get it done. Maybe I will ask some questions to find out what the laws are.
The only time the law changes with the GC seems to be when they have spent all their money on Christmas presents and they are looking for a little extra cushion for the new year. Did the OP's friend get a receipt for the fine???

We have an British friend here in Galicia who also has the plastic card DL. They too were told not to change it also by Traffico in Lugo. I have a paper one. Traffico accepted that and just added my NIE and address to it. So I am registered in the system.

We had to pay 42 euros for the medical and another 26 at traffico. That's each.

Just come back from traffico. We used a Gestor to do the dirty work. Total cost for two was about 350€

Yes - a bit pricey. It included medic check for 2 (47€ each), Photos for 2 (8€ each), trafico costs and gestor's fees (125€ each). I don't know how much goes to trafico and how much the gestor got - I guess he was a bit pricey.

On the upside, it's done and dusted and it only took two hours out of my life. If we'd have done it ourselves - who knows:banghead:

Well, we did ours ourselves and it was a piece of p*ss. Mind you, you do need a bit of Spanish.

Our costs per person were 42 for the med certificate, 26 for traffico and 4 for photos.

So, for two at 140 euros, that's a lot better than half price.

I hesitate to point out that it does not mention anything about registering your UK licence, which pretty much goes back to the OP,according to the UK govt site the driver was not breaking any law.
It always comes back to the same point, the GC are at best ill informed but worse they are corrupt. It is therefore nigh impossible to beat the GC.

Well, anyone who gets into a p*ssing contest with the law usually ends up with it all over himself.
