Spanish Citizenship: Certificado de Antecedentes
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get the long process of getting my Spanish nationality sorted this week, and I'm encountering problems with regards to getting a "Certificado de Antecedentes Penales". I was born in Spain from British parents (both of them) and have lived here ever since. Thus I apply for citizenship from by birth and by having lived here for more than ten years.
However, to apply for my Spanish nationality I have been told I need to have the Certificado from my country of origin (i.e my current nationality). This seems a little silly to me given that I have never lived in the UK, so it is unlikely they would have any criminal record for me there. I phoned the Ministerio de Justicia, who told me the embassy could issue me with one. The embassy told me I needed to visit the DBS record check website - but the website (https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barrin...check/overview) explicitly states that one cannot request a check on themselves. It says you can use Disclosure Scotland to request a "basic disclosure" on yourself, but they will only issue one to people with an address in the UK they've had for 12 months - But I've never lived there!!
So, given that I cannot use a spanish certificado, and also given the fact that I don't seem to qualify for an English one, what can I do? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
All the best,
M

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Re: Spanish Citizenship: Certificado de Antecedentes
According to the Ministerio de Justicia, country of origin is defined by my current nationality?
