Halifax used to be no charges as long as your balance remained over 600€ at all times, that would be better than that investment. I don't no if they have any branches close to you though, there are one or two on the Costa Blanca.

I witnessed a strange scene in a major Spanish bank yesterday. An elderly British woman had come in to complain about her account and threatened to close it.

The young Spanish woman official took the woman's details and then looked her up on her computer. She then asked the customer for her bank debit card, took it from her, took a pair of scissors from a drawer and cut up the card into small pieces.

The British woman sat there and looked stunned, while the bank official waved her away, saying that their interview was concluded. The customer reluctantly stuffed her papers back into her handbag and asked what was left in her account.

The woman official couldn't be bothered to reply in English and just said, Nada several times, waving her away in that typical Spanish fashion.

What bank was it? No reason not to name them - you are not "naming and shaming" just relating an incident as it occurred.
