For an EU citizen, the residencia registration is in the documentation section of the National Police BUT for Non EU citizens it is in a dept of the Home Office

I spoke to a solicitor today, Apparently the EU law regarding resident status for people from outside the EU has changed recently and it is now much more complicated than it was. This applies to new applicants and to renewals.
With this in mind, I am sure that the experience of anyone with recent knowledge, or anyone who makes an application in the future, will be most welcome in the forum.

The new law came into force in Feb 2007.
It seems simpler than it was, not more complicated.
You can read it at http://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2007/02/2...8558-08566.pdf
It is in accordance with the 2004 EU directive.

An advantage they have is that they still get the plastic Residencia Card (with photo and finer print) which is legal ID in Spain, so no need for them to carry their original passport.

Yes that's the last leg for them. It is after they have supplied all the paperwork to, in the case of people living in Torremolinos, the immigration office in Malaga and the residencia has been approved.
