Spain changes traffic laws

Re: Spain changes traffic laws
If you lived here and didn't pay your income tax or at least make a zero tax declaration that would also be unlawful.
However, under EU law, even if you don't register under the 90 day rule it seems that there is little they can do about it.
If you live here and don't register that you will not have the magic registration document that opens the door to other services but if you don't need them then you can probably get away with it forever, apart from the tax, assuming they can be bothered to chase you.

Tax questions are difficult anywhere, especially in Spain at this time. What some posters seem to assume is that expats who don't pay tax in Spain don't pay tax anywhere. All of the ones I know pay tax in England and are registered to do so.
I really don't know why some, especially recently arrived expats, seem adamant to get their fellow expats into trouble. Why don't they join one of the many self-help organisations all over expat land. I belong to several and get a great deal of satisfaction from helping others.

We are drifting off topic here. Much as I like to discuss tax issues it's time to get back to the new traffic laws.

DVLA will cease to issue paper tax discs from 1st October this year. From that date there will be no requirement to display a tax disc, even if you have one that has several months left on it.
Car tax will still have to be paid but will be recorded electronically only. This will become more like the Spanish system whereby Spanish registered vehicle owners pay car tax to their local authority but are not issued with anything to display.
It will thus become harder to identify illegally used UK vehicles in Spain. Personally I like being able to display a current UK tax disc when visiting Spain in my legal UK registered car. In future I might be wrongly suspected of driving illegally in Spain because there will be no tax disc to suggest otherwise.

Also the speed warning should not breach Spanish law as it is not a radar detector, merely warns re speed limits via GPS speed.

I read that some of you wonder why some cars from other countries do not get pulled over.
The Dutch can have an APK (their equivalent to ITV/MOT) done here in Spain:
Link in Dutch from A Dutch government website.
Basic translation into English" The trial is a response to requests from Dutch who over-winter or have a second home (in Spain). For companies and individuals who have a vehicle that does not return (to The Netherlands) annually, this means a reduction of charges. It is no longer necessary to drive to the annual APK or pay fines for failing to meet the APK requirement.
There is another arrangement for the Dutch cars in Belgium. It is hoped that after a review period it maybe that the Dutch will be able to have their cars tested in all European countries.

5. Alcohol and drug tests for pedestrians. Pedestrians caught violating a traffic regulation – by crossing the road at the wrong place, for instance – will be obliged to submit to a drug and alcohol test. Until now, this was only the case if they were involved in an accident.
It does not say what happens once such test has been submitted ?
