spain or the Canaries , much of a difference?

Is there a great deal of difference in cost and lifestyle between settling on the mainland or the canaries? . For instance is there any difference in health care costs , property costs and standard of living? Winter id imagine is a lot less severe (if thats the right word) in the canaries than spain. What is winter like on the costas? Any opinion appreciated and apologies if there have been dozens of similar threads.

We bought in the Spanish mainland in Costa Almeria (Mojacar Playa). The resort is low rise and the expats there informed us that they had escaped the high rise costas. We have a choice of 3 airports, good local bus service, choice of excellent supermarkets, centro medico, walks on the level, beautiful nearby villages and some large cities within 70 mins drive. Costa Almeria rivals the Canaries for sunshine and dry weather.

Hi

If you go to Weather Forecast & Reports - Long Range & Local | Wunderground | Weather Underground you can search current and historical weather for most places in the world

The following is for the month of December 1997 in Almeria

Weather History for Almeria, Spain | Weather Underground

and same month Tenerife

Weather History for Tenerife, Canary Islands | Weather Underground

Hope this helps

Temperatures and rainfall in Costa Almeria are the lowest in mainland Spain. As a rule of thumb from about 15th December 4.20pm to 12th March 11.10am the nights are cold peaking cold about 16th January. There is generally sunshine during the daytime hours but after 4.00pm mid Dec to mid March full winter clothing is required. You could spend most days in shorts and tee shirts though.
