I agree that there are things in the UK that have gone downhill, and me agreeing with one aspect of your view does not mean we have the same general opinion of the UK, get it?
I will say it again for those who have trouble understanding, I DO NOT think that the UK has nothing going for it, very much the opposite.

Oh dear you've got some serious issues.
But given that you lived in a small village in the Almerian desert, you couldnt have been hoping for the centre of civilisation surely?

Next time, do your research and you'll find lots of lovely "civilised" places to live in Spain

No, I can not be bothered, there is no good reason why I should try, because you will still feel the same and so will I.

You soon shut up when asked for your thoughts to back up on what you harp on about, huh some debate.
If I am wrong, so what, it's my opinion, at least I tell it as I see it.

Most people have an 'it's my country, it's the best' attitude. Good for them. I personally have no interest in living - or really even visiting - the UK. Probably because I was born and went to school there with holidays over here; and as a young man, contrasting Latin lessons with latina lessons, I always preferred Spain.

Nothing wrong with prefering Spain but a lot of the comments about the UK aren't valid. Traffic on the M25 etc. and central London is congested but how long ago since you have driven in Paris! Málaga can be a nightmare too. Nowhere is as good as it used to be, it's a changing world. As for "services" deteriorating...many of those services haven't ever been available in other countries.
There are lots of spanish in London, some on holiday but lots working there.

Why do so many Expats deride the UK?
For most Expats being able to live the life they wish to live in Spain is only possible by the wealth generated in the UK, whether public or private sector.
Having then generated that wealth certain Expats rubbish the UK at every opportunity.
I just do not understand that attitude.
I have a place in both countries but the UK is home.
If I was ill or broke I know where I would rather be.
Why can't both countries be embraced as they are both great.

Nothing wrong with the Op, it's just a shame that some translate what they read to suit themselves and start name calling. I started by saying most countries think they are the best at everything.
Can someone please tell me what I am making up here, I only say from my experiences in the part of the country where I lived.
I could not for the life of me get a Dentist where I lived in the Uk, the hospital waiting lists were months long, when trying to post a letter they had some funny looking gadget they slid my envelope through to give me a price, steel works closed, mines closed, car manufactures sold, railways privatised, what am I imagining? I don't translate this as being the best.
I can observe all this without hating the country, it's others that translate this to hate. maybe your part of the Uk is wonderful.

They still had fondness for the homeland and its people even though they left with nothing, but a lot of complain about the UK, despite the UK being partly responsible for the good life that they can enjoy in foreign climes.

Good post J1, I have never come across this before, that "incomers" to a country slag off their homeland at every opportunity, it did not happen in the UK with the Spanish, Italians, Portugese, and they had more grounds for bering discontent with their birth country, as they went to the UK because they did not have much in their own.
They still had fondness for the homeland and its people even though they left with nothing, but a lot of complain about the UK, despite the UK being partly responsible for the good life that they can enjoy in foreign climes.

and yet, if you'd bothered to read the opening post, you'd have seen that I actually put another country in front - Germany. Never mind, I'm sure a doctor can describe your condition. You can never bear to see Spain praised (hence your posting on a thread asking how you found Spain as a country to live, despite the fact you have never lived there and have made it clear you have no intention to move there. Worse still, you accuse posters of the reverse, ignoring (for example in my case) the many times I've praised the UK (it's mild summer weather, its lovely parks, its roast dinners and puddings etc). You are the living embodiment of the Spanish saying "cada ladron juezga por su propia condicion" = "thieves judge others by their own faults".
