With these new measures they are scrapping the reduction on petrol and diesel from 1 January. Can't grumble mind it has been a welcome help since last April.

Yes, it has - I paid 1,39€ for petrol yesterday and with oil under 80$ a barrel things are not so bad in that dept.

Whilst the reductions in IVA on basic food items is welcome, I think they are likely to save us around €1.00 a week if we are lucky. It has emerged today that pensioners and people in receipt of the ingreso minimo vital will not be entitled to claim the €200 cheque to help with the cost of food, so that seems to be restricted just to the lowest paid workers.

El Gobierno excluye del cheque de 200 euros a pensionistas y perceptores del ingreso mínimo (larazon.es)

Yes I think the 200 euros is for income through work and for households of under 27000 ( there must be quite a few million in that category given the real average salary is around 17.000) . I do think it should be means tested as there are people such as myself that earn less than that but I do have assets and the 200 really should be for desperate people. Still at least the government are trying to do something and the IVA reduction on food essentials is good
