I hope I have matured a bit from my last postings here, I want to ask anybody here what towns you live in that have a reasonably fast internet connection.

Is anybody here with ONO Cable, or would you not opt for that as you do not want the TV ?

is there anybody here outside of Madrid/Barca/Valencia with a fiber optic connection, I have read mixed views on fibre, some say it is growing some say it wont as there is no real on demand channels in Spain to warrant it, please share your view if you have time.

Does anyone have ADSL / speeds of 10mb and over or Jazztel/other ADSL 2+?

I have been randomly putting in phone numbers from google into certain Telefonica and ONO searches for areas with the above but without luck.

I have also seen some satellite companies claim to offer 18mb download, I would need to see that to believe it.

For 8 years I have wanted to move back to Spain, 4 years ago I was going to do it but lost my bottle, I am now on the brink of considering it again either November / Jan Feb of this year or in one year from now. If I come over I want to rent at first, I will probably drive over look for somewhere to rent but I would like to know the best locations for internet in general, I know that just because one town has it good does not mean that urbanisations round the corner will be the same.

For anyone who does reply I want to thank you in advance, My partner wants Alicante province but I feel the Malaga province maybe better for business should I try to start something up.

Thanks, La Linea is somewhere I would like to be, I loved when I was there but found property very expensive, that was a couple of years back when we were looking, im not sure if much has changed, Thanks that is very very helpful.

My rental flats have fibre optic with ONO - I seem to recall it's 20Mbit (is this the correct way of expressing it?).


Anyway, Ontinyent has fibre optic.

Granada does have fibre but out here in the olive groves we cannot have a landline of wet string letalone copper or fibre as there is a gap one house width between us and our next door neighbour.
So we use wireless courtesy of Jetsur.

My Wimax supplier uses ONO to access the internet; I´m in Chiclana; I know Cádiz has ONO also. I pay for 3Mb, but 6 or 10are available at a price

I am keen to get accurate information on the areas that have Fibre Optic. I need a fast broadband (and stable) to run my business from home too.

I am in the Malaga region but have no idea if it is in our area at all!

All depends on where you are in "Malaga Region"
as Telefonica/Movistar are responsible for the infrastructure your best bet is to ask them - they offer a superfast fibre service and when you click on that option they give you a search box where you put in your post code and they will tell you immediately if the area is covered.

any of the companies offering fibre services will give you a quick response.

the closer you are to the centre of Malaga the more chances there are in getting good quality internet

the more worrying thing should be as to the quality of electricity supply.
for the past 18months Endesa has been momentarily switching off and on at least once a day for 3-4 days a week.
during a storm they seemed to have a line flying in the breeze as it was going off and on ever couple of minutes. It was so bad that rather than have the tv go bang on us we went to bed early.

lets put it this way - all places selling computers also have good stocks of UPS's available.

Thanks Domino, had already done the search, and my pueblo (Alhaurin de la Toree) got this reply: 'We do not have it, and we are not planning to install it!' Not very useful! My friend in Mijas Pueblo checked on her landline via the site too - and got one slightly better of VDSL (it explains it on the movistar website as 2 x better than ADSL as there are 4 lines instead of 2).

The news if you read the latest developments - of the 'Big Three' - Movistar, Orange and x? (sorry - brain gone dead at the moment!)... are getting together to get more lines in. It states Madrid and Barcelona have the highest number of lines (as one would imagine), but in other areas it is woefully poor!

(I think I remember a figure of the 6 million telephone users in Spain, only 250,000 have fiber optic access?)
