Sorry but again...UK registered car in Spain.

Yes, it's basically a neighbourhood from La Coruña.
In Spain, the vehicle has to be at least 25 years old to apply to be classified as classic.
About the chances to be caught in the north, I would have said that it was the opposite, as there aren't so much UK registered cars that they don't give a damn about them and don't know much about this, unlike the guardias in the south that may be aware that many people is driving this not-so-legal cars.

I am not sure what you are saying there... are you driving an illegal car then?

I said not-so-legal.
Anyway, although I'll do my best to register the car here and drive legally, why should I feel guilty for having driven it for 10 months?.
Have I been damaging anything?. If we are in the EC and we are allowed to live in any EC country legally, why can't we freely take our cars with us?, or be able to register them without so much hassle?
As long as you have a valid third party insurance, I don't see a reason to be so much blamed.
Come on, sometimes it looks like I'm a criminal for driving a UK registered car.
Anyway, I must give a big THANK YOU to all of you for getting involved on this and offering your help and opinions.

Wouldn't worry too much,..its not exactly a hanging offence, and the prisons are already heaving.
Slap on the wrist or a few peseta fine at worst, even if they do cotton on.
(Last time I was up that way the old folkies were still insisting on all their bills in pesetas,.. and it wasn't that long ago).

Hi All,
I have had a Quote to re-register car in Spain for 800Euros.
Does anyone knw if this reasonable. I have a Seat Ibiza 1.4.
Also does it cost to then go back to UK system?

Is that subject to import registration fees? (Have you been a resident here for a while)?

Hi
pm me for our list of costs etc; we reckon that it costs around 650 euros PLUS first registration (Import duty) tax PLUS headlights AND rear lights.

I tend to agree with Richard, if he has insurance then it is as much the crazy system which exists, which makes things unnecessarily complicated and expensive as his.
What is needed is a simple straightforward system for recording that a car is being driven in another EU country, coupled with a simple way of paying to 'use the road.' That could be to abolish any form of Road Tax and stick a few cents on each litre of petrol. That way everyone would pay in proportion to the use made of the vehicle and it fuel consumption.
Of course that would mean sacking a hell of a lot of non-productive administration staff in all the EU countries, which would be a good thing in the present economic situation.

Yes it does, there is a re registration fee, and, of course, headlights etc have to be changed again, so there will be fees for that.

This is the Quote I have recieved.. I take it Headlights are my responsibility in addition to the below.
IMPUESTO DE MATRICULACION (Registration tax) 268,16.-
FICHA REDUCIDA (Spanish Technical Card) 120,20.-
EXPTE MATRICUL (Traffic Agency Fee) 135.00.-
PLATES 75,00.-
HONORARIOS (my Fee) 290,00.-
TOTAL 888,36 €.-
this DOES NOT INCLUDE annual rolling tax ( it depends on what date the
car is actually registered.)
and the ITV inspection that will cost you about 120€.(This is a more exhastive inspection more expensive than the regular one that has to be done just once)

Re: Sorry but again...UK registered car in Spain.
Well, so, I spent the morning talking with ITV, industria, several "empresas de homologación", the british consulate...
The news are not so good.
- Being this a japanese import, they said it's going to be virtually impossible to register it here without a "certificado de baja consular".
-If I get that, everything will be easy, no Tax, just new beams, new plates, ITV... , it can all be done for under 800 euros without hassle.
-But the consulate won't expedite it for me at the present date, so if I want it, I will have to be registered back in Liverpool for 1 year!, to be able to apply for the registration.
-I don't work and don't have mortage here, my girlfriend is spanish so she could sort things out for me, so what are the disadvantages you see of being registered in Liverpool for a year while living in La Coruña?
I don't know what to do really, I'm getting depressed about all this, I may take the car to the UK, pass MOT, register myself and come back so I would be legal for at least 6 months. Then wait another six months for the "certificado de baja consular".
