Now who is exaggerating?

But just out of curiosity, if the entire nation is unemployed, who is going to pay for all of that?

Sorry, I forgot... EU bailouts of course! Why not? We're "entitled".

Carry on.

sorry for once must disagree CM

there is no "waiting for the economy to improve"
you have to have go out there and improve it, by any means necessary

if Spain was your business and orders/customers fell off drastically what would you do - sit back and wait for it to improve, making a few people redundant, or become proactive and find ways of improving it, find new markets, find new customers, find new products, change the colour of your existing products, clean the windows in your high street shop, rearrange the window dressing, stop people in the street............
now multiply times 1million and thats the size of the problem or answer dependent on your viewpoint.

countries are just a larger version of companies - each is a kiddies top, if you keep on pumping it regularly it doesnt go all wobbly, if you get it right it hums, if you get it wrong it falls over and the children cry.

Unemployment benefit is a tiny proportion of national spending, especially in Spain, just a couple of percent

You're being pedantic and teaching your granny to suck eggs

Btw, you should tell this to Brussels and Merkel who have impossed such strict spending cuts on Spain without allowing a budget to actually help improve the economy

I get what you are saying even if nobody else does, and some even confuse benefits with perks, what can you say............

Erm, you can't collect tax from people who don't have any income.

Tax pays for whatever benefits the population is legally entitled to. Particularly the ones you seem to feel should be prioritised over job creation.

You have ten fingers. Figure it out, Einstein.

Yes, it would. But I'd have to believe 25%+ unemployment across the population is probably a larger tax collection problem than a handful of tax-evading expats.

But apparently more spending on social programs will get us out of this, not creating jobs which facilitate tax revenues from the bulk of the population.

Just look at how well it's worked so far. We are, after all, still the envy of the world. We are #1 in everything, and even the Germans are jealous of us (well, according to CMan, anyway) which is why they are trying to steal our prosperity from us. Well, them and the Americans, who obviously aim to steal all of our oil.

Right then.

You are obviously completely oblivious of what is going on in Spain at the moment

The government have announced huge cuts in health and education. That is what I am talking about. I would rather have the AVE building stopped than seen these cuts. 10,000 teachers are getting sacked for a start

I forget that some people havent a clue about what is going on in Spain

The only way out is for Spain to leave the euro, would be back on it's feet in a couple of years...oh and dump all the costly projects that are taking place.

I wouldn't dump the AVE projects (well maybe I'd halt the Galicia and Badajoz lines which will never carry enough passengers) as they are creating good business for Spain. Remember the 8 billion deal with Saudi Arabia last year? Well Spanish rail companies are bidding for several large high speed projects currently - a couple are worth 15 billion each. Plus the amount of rail exports are currently increasing at 26% a year even without those big deals http://www.spanishrailwaysnews.com/n...ot=251&cs=home
I don't see that rail engineers (or even sales reps overseas for Spanish rail companies) are any less or more worthy than Spanish teachers. Get rid of all those politicians first and their lackeys would be my priority - I know it's unlikely as we need Gallego language law enforcement officers, and overseers that force Barcelona businesses to print everything in Catalan, even if their customers are from overseas.

From today's paper, huge debts, but they still insist on ploughing ahead building even more less profitable lines.
