Some good news, for a change.
A few months ago, a British television programme highlighted the case of an expat resident, living on an unfinished urbanisation at Qrihuela Costa which had raw sewage floating down the street all the way down to the beach. The resident is Irish and said that he was on his ‘turd’ brush.
I read today that the local authority are now tarmacing his street and were fixing the drains. I doubt if such a good news story will make national British television, but it really cheered me up.
As for the rest of the local paper – my lips are sealed, I’ll stick with the good news.
If anyone is curious enough, I read the online ‘roundtownnews’.

I think if they re-built the Prior’s house as well (it could happen), and Spain came out of the recession, we would all be as happy as we were 15 years ago.
What was it? 270 Pesetas to the pound? A coffee and brandy for 100 Pesetas? A detached villa in Moraira for . . .peanuts, Orihuela Costa hadn’t been invented, I’ve forgotten the name of the Spanish PM, a right villain, but he loved us foreigners.
It could all come back. I sat on my cool terrace tonight and dreamt that it would. And it will.

I think certainly in part, the work has been done as a direct result of the case being highlighted on British TV. That was a whole lot of negative press that that area received, and will not have done tourism in that area any good. Begs the question, if it's all so easy to fix, why wasn't it done ages ago? Why did it have to be shown on national TV before anything was done? Nothing like some bad publicity to get something fixed.

I agree with agoriera, if it was fixable it would of been done a long while ago,but they were all too busy taking money in and not a thought was given to putting anything back into the infrastructure etc. the new widened N332 should have happened along time ago and was supposed to be completed in May of this year

It did make TV in the UK - there is a programme on at the moment called Trapped in Spain. They did show the turnaround by the Mayors office and the sewage and road works being dealt with.
A good ending for the TV show but a better result for the residents
