Hi

looking to buy an apartment around the Estepona region and hope to view when this is all over.

I have found a Spanish solicitor here in the uk who charges about £1500 plus vat plus Notary charges NEI charges (if I used them for this) and a few other possible charges I feel comfortable with this but not sure if the bill will be stupid due to being in the UK.

Never purchased a property abroad before and find having a Sellers estate agent solicitor and everyone else who could be involved all in the same place many many miles away a bit worrying any advice would be wonderful

You do not actually require a solicitor to purchase. Perhaps a bit risky but I chose not.

£1500 + VAT seems very expensive to me.

I would suggest you find a solicitor local to Estepona. He/ she will be familiar with the area and better able to advise you. Would you employ a solicitor in Shetland to purchase in Sheffield?

Whilst you do not have to use a solicitor I think (and I know many agree because we have covered this before) to purchase in a foreign country with no knowledge would be quite frankly very foolhardy.

Use a Local (ie Spain) professional qualified independent solicitor who can arrange your purchase and then sort our your tax, will etc etc.
