Of course you can sell it wherever you like the problem would be avoiding the liability for SUMA.

You must import a car and pay the duty before you advertise it for sale in the UK. If HMRC find out they will sieze the vehicle.

Err, you sure? It is my own vehicle, whats it got to do with HMRC.

I am just looking for a clean, legitimate way to sell my own car to someone in another EU country without the need for them to visit Spain and get an NIE or whatever!

I had a dutch registered Alfa which I advertised for sale in the UK before I paid the import duty. It was my intention to keep the car if it did not sell. The blonde who bought the car phoned HMRC and I had a visit from two officers who told me they would have impounded the car had I not paid the duty.

I believe regulations may have changed since then.

HMRC owns you. And me. They have more power than god. A friend who was a copper said that he used to fantasise about having such power. They don't need a warrant or good cause, and you are presumed guilty until you can prove you are innocent.

Someone I knew had his business ruined by their siezing of all his papers, documents et al. They held all his stuff for the thick edge of a year and then returned them with no explanation, and he had no comeback.

Not on used EU cars as all taxes have already been paid in the EU at first registration.

On new cars you can buy new without paying the VAT then pay it when you register the car in the EU country of your choice .
