" Soft Touch Britain", you pay £21m benefits to migrant workers for their children in Poland. --- There are concerns that Britain's lax welfare system is open to abuse and fraud. A spokeswoman for HM Revenue and Customs said, the main purpose of child benefit is to support families living in the UK, so the general rules mean that it is not paid to children who live outside the UK. " However, under EU rules, which have been in place since the UK joined the European Community in 1973, an EU national working and paying compulsory contributions in one EU country can claim child benefit for their family resident in another EU country." ----- So much for the rules as seen by HM Revenue and Customs, and while we are at it, does anyone know of any child benefits in Spain, or indeed in any other EU country?

I have an 18 month old and live on the costa blanca. If the mother works full time (with contract) you can claim 100 euros a month. If the mother works part time it is 50 euros a month. We miss out because my wife is only on a 10 hour a week contract. It has to be a minimum of 16 hours. Ask your solicitor.
It was exposed in the papers that a polish person working in UK gets his benefits paid into his Polish Bnk Account and his wife back in Poland gets to take it out in the polish currency...without an exchange rate. |
