Small businesses in Madrid rising to the economic challenge
A very interesting and informative article about the rise of small businesses and entrepreneurship in Madrid - and getting the local govt to help instead of hinder..

David Castro agrees. His artisan beer label La Cibeles is already exporting to Japan, the US, Sweden and Norway after just a year and a half. “We’re the backbone of the economic recovery in Spain,” he says. The small brewery now sells over 150,000 litres a year, giving the brand a potent voice in local corridors of power. “My voice was hoarse from asking for government help but because of the crisis the local administration is finally beginning to listen.”

Yes Stevie, there is good news out there and not just in Madrid but even down south in Andalucia there are new start ups, people having a go as well as small businesses winning new contracts to give themselves and the country a future.
The problem is all those who just look at the negative side. As I have said more than once here, it is about time Rajoy got his expensive PR people to dig out the good news and issue 3 for every 1 bad news item.
But then BES isnt the place to do it, all those who want to drive the country down will come out to ruin the honey pot

On an optimistic note it seems as though the auto industry anticipate better days ahead - there's subsatantial investment from various companies planned in Spain. This is really good news as the auto industry can employ substantial numbers of people.

No doubt the multi-nationals are beginning to look on Spain as a land of cheaper labour and decreasing employer liabilities with no hope of digging itself out of its crisis for many years ahead, leaving them in a position to call the shots exactly as they wish.
Basically the country will be governed by the Germans and the multi-nationals from now on, whilst the Spanish will have little choice but to either dance to their tune or move to a country with a future.

It`s about time the politicos realized how important small business`s are to an economy ,assist not obstruct is the only way, as DD says Spaniards who want work are having to change their attitude, many are now heading overseas , two English families I know in the UK are both employing Spanish Au Pairs , both are graduates , one late twenties and the other over 30 !!
