A slightly unusual driving license question.
Sorry for the new driving license thread but my parents have slightly unusual circumstances. I told them I´d ask on here in with the hope someone might know what they need to do.
My parents left the UK over 15 years ago and have since lived in Australia.
My Dad will be 70 this year and my Mum a few years later.
Both have Australian driving licenses.
As Mom has now decided to be closer to her kids and grand kids, and the thought of moving to the UK depresses my Dad, they are considering coming to live here in Spain. In fact Dad is over at the moment doing a recce on the place.
As they no longer have UK driving licenses, they were told that if they come to Spain, they will have to sit a full driving test (in Spainsh) for them to obtain a Spanish driving license??
Does anyone know if this is the case?
My feeling is that they could register as living with my Brother in the UK and obtain the UK one, or request a letter from the DVLA advising they are qualified European drivers?
Will be most grateful to anyone that might respond.
Thanks for your time.

Hola
From what I can remember, only EU states are recognised. So British driving licences are OK, Australian are not

DVLA will have a record of your parents driving qualifications they held before they left the UK. This is form D737 ( or was when I applied some years ago )
The following link is a form to ask for a copy of your record.:-
https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...888_260214.pdf
With this they may be able to get a Spanish licence, worth a try
I had my licence amended using these records.

Your parents could also move to Spain via the UK for a short period, thereby enabling them to apply for replacement licenses from a UK address
