Re: sky tv
Isn't this just a repeated thread?
Who was your supplier?
I have friends in Calpe who have a Sky subscription (from UK) and it's still working fine.
You may find that your supplier was 'rebroadcasting' the Sky signal. This being illegal, they have been closed down.

Hi Shergar, hope all is well with you both!
Our Sky TV is fine, are you on a different rebroadcast system though?
We used Base satellite and found them rather good BTW,
Ste.

a major rebroadcaster was visitied by the guardia, no official reason has not yet been given , but rumour suggests more "tax issues" than rebroadcasting. howver, other rebroadcaters hava also removef the key sky channels (like sky sports) just incase they get visited for "copyright infringment" - rebroadcasting channels without permission from the channel owners.
it does appear that a loophole in the "system" does allow for the retransmission of "free to air" tv channels like BBC, ITV and C4, but not channels that require a encryption viewing card (that Five and SKy subscription channels) need.
the rumours of spanish Tv (i take it you mean canal digital + the spanish pay tv operator) are just those in my opinion, just rumour. i have not found any officaial announcement of this inany of the press or business sections - dont you think it strange that they give this info to a local spanish newspaper and not announce it to their shareholders...?? also, sky do / may not have the permission of the programme makers or sporting bodies (the Fa, FIFA, dare i say WWE!) to resell their right to other broadcasters. for example, the ryder cup is already on canaldigital+ Golf channel, and canaldigital+ would have bought exclusive spanish tv rights for this privailge. TVE have exclusive premier league rights...sky cannot allow it channels to go to another "satellite provider" without buying the spanish rights from the programme makers, who would be unlikey to grant sky the rights and this would contravene the exclusive deals thay they already have other spanish TV companies. if TVE and sky UK were to be showing the same footie match, then Sky Spain would not be able to, due to the exclusive contract, and would have to show alternative programming or sdisplay a "screensaver" for 3 hours!! many of the channels, programmes, movies and sports are already on canaldigital+ (they have their own version of sky movies, sky box office, nat geo, discovery channels),so it would be pointless duplication - although i dont think any spanish station shows cricket! also, i dont think there is enough space / capacity on the satellites used by canaldigital+ to carry many more channels without serverly compromising quality of the broadcasts.
they may have some deal to do a "sky sports news" channel, as this (normally) does not show live sports, and so rights would not be an issue with this channel, in the same way the sky news and bbc news can be broadcast around the world.
