SIP card - does my wife qualify also?
I have a SIP card for health cover. My wife is below pensionable age. Can she obtain an S1 form and apply for a SIP card based solely upon my status and that I qualify for such cover?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes,but when she becomes of pensionable age, she should apply for one in her own right, as if you die before her she will be left without cover

I'm hoping to find that out when I ring the appropriate section in Newcastle upon Tyne later. It is a S1 form for my wife that I will request, if of course I discover that's what she qualifies for.
Or did you mean SIP card? The S1 is just the form on which to base the application for the SIP card.

Thanks Rosemary, when I applied for my S1 and subsequently obtained my SIP card, it didn't occur to me that I could have included my wife in the process at the time.

We did not know that this was the method so the initial form was taken to the INSS office in good faith and it was due to a phone call later asking about my husband that made us realise that he needed to be included in the dependant person section of the form by the DWP. It was all very straight forward once we had this omission corrected.

She won't get her own S1 as she doesn't qualify, but can be added to yours.
Once you have the new document, you can then both get your own SIP cards.

If so, do I just forget an S1 and requesting one for her?

Rosemary can answer this better but here's my understanding.
- Your wife can't get an S1 as she isn't elligible
- You have to contact DWP to get her added to your S1 which may result in different paperwork
- She can't get a SIP card until she has something to prove that the UK will pay - hence the updated S1
- SIP cards are for an individual so you each need one separately

Sorry to confuse you.

Do you mean I should reapply for a new S1 in my name and ask to have her added? If so would I then use the new S1 when received to apply for a SIP for her only, even if it is in my name albeit with her details added?
Thanks.

Apologies but still confused! I got my S1 a couple of years ago which I used to obtain my SIP, so I can't understand how I can get her added to my S1.

When your wife becomes a pensioner in her own right she will need a new S1 and begin the process again because she will then not be classified as your dependant.
Also for clarity you are not asking for her to be added to your old S1 but asking for a new one with her named on it.
New form, new process.
