Sima or Abyss

I was talking to my neighbour who is reforming his house with the view to selling it .When I asked if he was going to install a septic tank he just shrugged his shoulders and told me all the houses in our part of the valley have a sima.Which he described as a deep hole that drains into the bedrock. My house is over 150 years old and I have always assumed that it had a pozo negro which I occasionally feed with activador biologicos sachets .He told me I was wasting my money and laughed.Maybe when he comes to sell his house the last laugh may be on him.Does anyone else have a sima?

Hola

Here in Chiclana there is a problem in that these types of "septic tank" have contaminated the water table - the report has gone from Ayuntamiento to Junta - one of these days someone will do something to alleviate the problem

Regarding the use of septic tank sachets. I use them regularly, but don't know if I'm almost literally throwing my money down the drain.
Anyone know if the're any good and work?
Thanks.

The major town near to me is Gandia and a few weeks ago the local paper reported that Aguas de Valencia are spending 2 million euros to build two filter stations to address the problem of herbicides in the drinking water.Naturally they have assured their clientèle that it is still safe to drink......;) Then within the week, water fountains started to disappear from the children's playgrounds.

Hola

Once the tank is working, then they are not needed - maybe if you us as a holiday home after a long non-use period.

Waste of money.

We have had our tank for 13 years. No smells, works fine and never needed emptying.

So I take it from the comments above that I have been wasting my money then!
Feel gullible using and buying them. Only good thing, if it can be called good, is that when I used them I thought I was helping the septic tank process.
Oh well, balloon popped!
