Hi. My first car was a 1 yr old bought from a business and using a Gestoria, So everything was done for me. However I've seen an old aircooled VW bus for sale from a closing language school that I quite fancy. I'm going to view it in the morning, as the other people viewing are arriving on monday (so Im told ). As its a bit of a drive away, he's suggested we sign, I pay him, and drive off with it that day. Now, in the past, I thought I'd read that its either a double trip to the traffic department together, or its a Gestoria. But in this case he's suggested filling in and signing the printed off online forms. And me paying/taking the bus there and then (if I like it). Then either filing the docs myself or using the Gestoria to do it for me when I get back. So, as I've not done it this way before, I thought I'd ask before I did anything that might leave me up the creek! Are there any current pitfalls of doing it the way he's suggested? Cheers in advance!

Many and varied, could cost you a fortune in unpaid fines, tax etc, as has been advised DON'T DO IT.

Go and view the vehicle.
If you like it make him an offer subject to the paperwork being handled by a Gestoria.
Give him your phone number.
Then leave it up to him how he proceeds.
If someone else buys it, well so be it.
If they don't he will get back to you and accept your offer.

You can also agree to simply show up at the local traffico with the papers, and any outstanding fines or taxes will be revealed at that point. If it's "loaded" with such things, then either demand the owner pay it, or the deal is off.

Of course, if it is loaded with taxes and fines, he'll decline to do this, and then you know.

Just an update!..I bought the bus and went through a Gestoria. All went well. I even got roped into making an appearance at the local village carnival parade....

Well better late than never. But yes youre right. Sometimes its like reading a juicy book...but with the last page to be left out.
