Shutters that don't shut!

Hi

My shutters seem to have died! When you pull on the cord they do nothing. The guys who manage my apartment have removed the actual roller that holds the shutter and left the box in place. They don't think it can be fixed and say the only way to sort it is to remove the whole patio door and insert a new system. That seems rather drastic!!! Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations please?

Why on earth would they do that ! I don't know what type you have but mine are easily repaired by any good handy man, the cord can be bought in the ferreterias.

There is a name sticker on mine of the company who fitted them, they renewed the cord on a set for me last year. Company name Carpipalos, POLIGONO INDUSTRIAL SAN JORGE, 290-291, 21810 Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, Spain

I think they said the track is broken. It hasn't been used in any off way at all. They've removed the shutter from the box above the patio door for now but say the whole patio door will need to come out as its integrated with the door!

If they can remove the persiana they can replace with new (well someone else could)

There will be a local company near you that specialise in these & most most window company's also supply & fit.
Ask one of them to visit and have a look.

If you don't want to try the company I mentioned then try your local ferreteria, they are a mine of useful information and very helpful. Well the ones round my way are anyway.

I do not have any connection with them, just used them to fix mine the first time as their name is in the shutters.

You can get nearly all the parts to repair standard persianas in Leroy Merlin. Make sure you keep the shutter panels. A decent handiman should be able fix it. Probably needed a decent lubrication and maintenance.

There is a guy who fixes blinds in ayamonte, Kiko is his name, he used to own a hardware store. I have sent you his number. He will set you right.

The modern ones take up less space and can be fitted neatly on the outside on the top of the window space.
The beauty of them is that unlike the old type, they are totally draught proof.
Also you no longer need that great ugly box that encloses them so it can be taken away altogether.

Quite a few guys around who specialise in nothing else but persianas.

Thanks everyone!!! I am putting money now hopefully on not removing my patio door just to fix it!!!! I'm ivrr next month so will work my way through the list. Michele H I owe you another beer if it works out!! You'll have to take another aerial shot of my terrace with the blinds down to prove I fixed it! :-) S x

Hi Saycheese,
a friend of mine is a real real handyman. If you want to have another opinion and you don't mind to send me some pictures of your shutters either its mechanism and broken pieces, I'll send them to my handyman friend and let you know his opinion. It'll be completely free so there is nothing to lose.

I'll send you the details. You'll see how it'll be fixed with the right handyman's ideas and of course, a little of luck.
