Shipping None runner to the uk for Repair
Hi All,
I'm after advise.
I bought a Spanish Reg 2003 Ford focus 2 years. It broke down and is now a none runner. I have had quote to have it repaired from both a main dealer and local garage and the cost from both is close to 3,500€.
I've done some research and talked to good garages in the UK and I can get the repair done there for 1000 pounds. I would drive it back once fixed. I'm in Estepona and work in gib so need this fixing quick.
Now my questions Are?
Has anyone ever done this before..?
Can i ship a none runner to the uk?
How much would it be to ship a car to the uk?
would i have to pay import tax in the uk?
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm after advise.

Your Spanish insurance should cover you for a period of maybe 3 months, although that may be third party
I suspect that with the car costing £1000 (estimate)to repair, and then the cost of getting it there (I have heard figures of £500 - £750) and then the return journey etc and your flight there to collect, it's all going to add up
Sure you cant find a cheaper alternative here?

with a difference of two grand wouldn't it be cheaper to ship over the mechanic to spain, buy him a set of tools and a free holiday in spain at the same time, and still be in pocket.

So what is wrong with the car?
If it is something like it requires a new motor or gearbox there are plenty of breakers around so that you can purchase a second-hand unit.

I had a vaguely similar problem with an unusual car in Spain. The Spanish garage couldn’t source the part that was required, but an English garage could. I had it delivered to England and sent on to me in Spain where the best mechanic in the world, English, fitted it in a day.
