Shengen travel on uk passport in 2021

We will have a visitor arriving in early December. He wants to visit Sweden over the new year period. He is a UK resident and has a UK passport. Will he need a visa to re enter Spain from Sweden on the 3rd of January? He intends to come back here for a few days before returning to the UK. All this presupposes there will be no problems with travel between UK/ Spain and Spain/Sweden of course.

No. Schengen rule allows a traveller to spend 90-in-180 days in the Schengen area, which can be split between different Schengen states, including visiting the same country more than once. For a travel between Sweden and Spain, it's regarded as internal travel and he won't go through passport control, though he will be asked to present his passport when checking in at Sweden.

The first paragaph of that link reads:-When the Brexit transition period officially ends on 31st December 2020, UK nationals lose the automatic right to come and go in Spain that has been in place for 48 years. From 1st January 2021, only those who have already established lawful Spanish residence or EU citizenship will have unlimited access to the country.

Is that correct, Spain did not enter the EU until 1986 so only 34 years ago? If wrong then the question is are there other mistakes in the document.

SPAIN
  • EU member country: since 1 January 1986
  • Schengen: Schengen area member since 26 March 1995

Because they have quoted the date the Uk joined the EC and common market in 1971 so its nearly 48 years.

Not Spain specifically although thats what they were trying to insinuate. If thats the level of advice given I would not trust them with my financial well being.

There has never been a right to 'come and go', or at least not in the sense BF suggest.

What there has been is an ability to but that's something else entirely and what in reality will be coming to an end on Dec 31st.
