SETTING UP A DELI IN SPAIN

Anyone done this? Any tips on doing so? Any personal ideas on what might be good to stock? Where is best to get equipment on the CDS

Why would you want to set up a Deli in Spain?

All the supermarkets have huge Deli counters and I have never seen a dedicated Deli anywhere - maybe that means there is a gap in the market but I will be interested in your reasons.

Very true, I really think it would be a struggle to compete against them stock wise and customer wise.

I would just like to say good luck with whatever you decide to do business wise and when do you plan to move over to CDS x

I am afraid that you might find it hard going - we looked at purchasing a business which had been run as a deli - she managed to last two months before she gave it up as a bad job. The stock consisted of English fruit juices, english cheeses, chutneys, jams, picked onions and for some reason imported olives from England and to top it all Australian wine at €29!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She did manage to sell a couple of loafs a day though!

I don't think you can sell anything which cannot be bought elsewhere. Sorry to be negative but I personally would try and think of something else.:(

There is a big deli in trapiche Fred by Vinuela, which is a fair way from any supermercados, it is Spanish owned and run and quite a big brit community around it, big store with butchers as well.
