Selling Spanish house from UK
Hi everyone,
im trying to help my elderly father sell his house in Spain. He was going to travel out there to meet the notary and sign in person. However due to poor health & the coronavirus pandemic, he is no longer able to travel.
can he sign with a notary in UK? Our solicitor is telling us that he needs to make him a power of attorney so that he can sign in Spain, but I’m wary of this because we have never met the solicitor in person, so essentially making a stranger POA.
Does anyone have some advice?
thanks.

Hola
A solicitor (or their clerk) is a safer option than a "friend". There are both good and bad solicitors but if you have used the solicitor before then that is better. You don't say where the house is, that information could lead to a better recommendation

Thank you.
The house is located in Caudete near Almansa. We haven’t used this solicitor before. I was hoping there was a way to not have to use a power of attorney at all?

Unfortunately I think giving your fathers solicitor power of attorney the only option, however it may be wise to leave things for a while because I believe that house sales are going to slow down for quite a while due to Coronavirus as house viewing is not one of the reasons for essential travel!

I would ask your father to contact the notary and explain his problem. He is there to help.
Where is the property located?
You can use this website to find a notary nearby who speaks English https://notaries-directory.eu/en/sea...16291999999999

Your father or his nominated PoA must attend at the notary. Regulations may be relaxed because of C-19?

Also, just make sure it's a LIMITED POA - and can only be used to sell the property.
