selling RHD car in Alicante

Hello,
First post here.
Moving to Alicante province (Altea, Alfaz or Benidorm).
Being unable to get decent money selling my car in Ireland (2005 BMW 525) i was thinking of driving it to Spain and try to sell it there to either Irish or British people wanting to take it back to a RHD country.

I am certainly not the first one with this "brilliant idea" but i wanted to get opinions on how easy would it be to sell the car in Spain in your opinion/experience?

Secondly, perhaps someone may point me to a local dealer that would specialise in this kind of stuff.

Finally, besides MILANUNCIOS, any recommendations as to where i could post ads that are likely to be read by Irish/British Expats?

I have been going to that Spanish region since i was born and I am fluent in Spanish. However i do not have links with any expats over there so this is why i'm asking here.

Thank you very much

Welcome to BE.

If you are having difficulty getting decent money in Ireland, then you are really going to struggle in Spain, RHD cars are ten a penny in those places that will sell them. Is your car fully street legal in Ireland?

Can only agree with mikelincs and if you can't get decent money here in Ireland, what do you expect in Spain? OK, less people would buy a 2005 used car here but I doubt you will get much in Spain.

I sold my UK registered VW Polo to a dealer in La Marina. I got more than I would have selling in UK.

Better to accept the best you can get in Ireland or the UK , you can see what they are fetching in the UK on autotrader.co.uk.

UK is a lot cheaper for used cars. It's easy to check asking prices on done deal and compare with milanuncios. Don't know the exact details of car but that's the easiest option. The only thing stopping someone buying this car here would be taxes due to emissions etc. but the parts etc. would make more money here, so no reason why you'd get more money in Spain.

I am kind of thinking that because the car is in excellent shape with low mileage if i have to lose a chunk on it either in Ireland or Spain i think i may as well be driving it for the next few months while i get things sorted there, otherwise i find myself stuck without a vehicle while i try to find one over there.

I may have to drive to Madrid a couple of times so in the end i'd rather do it in a comfortable performance car than a Clio for example.

And no way i get such nice car there if spend only the money i sold the car for...

Does that make any sense?

Makes sense but you will also have to make sure that you have valid insurance in Spain.

I found 2 cars in autotrader that could be compared

1 with 100K miles at 3000GBP in OK condition
1 with 79K miles at 6000GBP in great condition

My car's mileage is 81000 and i would consider its condition a good average between both ads above, and i have it prices at 4000GBP, and not getting any calls at all. Spent 800 euros in new tires 6 months ago so not keen to take such a loss.

The chances of finding a Spanish buyer are about zero and an expat buyer extremely low (most are skint , those that aren't wouldn't want it), don't forget to factor insurance for Spain in as well as ferry costs and fuel / nights out.
Plus remember you will have to register it in Spain after 90 days (I think) or risk having it confiscated.
