hi,

can someone tell me how to find out the 'fiscal value' of a car that I want to sell? apparently this amount is the basis for determining the 4% transfer tax on selling the vehicle, and is determined by some official office, but I don't know which one.

Your best bet would be to go to a Gestor and ask - if you mention the possibility of them doing the transfer, then they might give you the costs up front.

it is available online but I don't have a link to hand. I used the tables when I re registered my UK car in Spain. I am sure google would find it eventually.

I looked up my car and was amazed by their valuation - way above current market levels. I obviously understand their desire to maintain values but surely they should have relation to reality.

I was amazed too - now I see why the tax is/was so high!

Well the buyer has to pay so no problem I guess - but of course the problem is with the replacement car!

Maybe buying new is a better deal than 2nd hand - especially with all the offers on at the moment.

Why pay a high tax to buy an old 2nd hand car?

Maybe not everybody can afford it or get credit
so maybe the second hand option is the only way to have a car

New cars are nice to have, unfortunately they are prime targets for scrapes and dents in the supermarket parking lot.

We finally resolved to buying old pre-scratched & dented cars. It's a lot more practical.
