Default Self Employment when Retired ?

Thank You to all who replied to my previous Post!
I am semi - retired and receive my U.K Pension in 3 years time, I have paid the full 44 years stamp.
I am covered for Health Care because of my wife disabilities she is excempt and depends on me for some care.
From what I can gather the 240 euro payment per year is really to cover you for Health Care.
But as I am already covered would I still have to pay ?
Would I therefore only be liable for Income Tax ?
I know my situation is a bit unique, but I would be glad of any advice anyone can give.

If you are already covered on the Spanish NHS from your wife's record then there is no point in paying social security just for the sake of it.

If you actually become self employed then you will have to pay it as it is just like NI in the UK - it covers many things apart from just healthcare.

As for income tax, if you are resident in Spain for more than 183 days in one calendar year then you will pay Spanish tax on your total income except for any government pension which will be taxed in the UK. The UK state pension and any other income is liable for tax in Spain.
